Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, the president of Paris Saint-Germain, has made himself the spokesman for the much criticized 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Qatar has found a prestigious defender. Targeted for months, the 2022 World Cup currently being played in the Arabian Peninsula was defended by Nasser Al-Khelaïfi. In the context of an interview given to the English media TalkSPORT, the president of Paris Saint-Germain responded to the many controversies surrounding the organization of the event in his native country, he is a native of Doha. Working conditions for workers, ban on the sale of alcohol around stadiums, rainbow armband in support of the LGBT community… Critics abound.
“It’s not fair at all”
The usual boss of the club of the French capital does not understand this outburst of hatred against Qatar. “I won’t comment on what he (Gianni Infantino, FIFA President) said. The world has been so unfair to Qatar. If people come to see Qatar, Qataris and what we do… Of course, we’re not perfect here. Trust me, we’re doing our best. We are good people, we treat people with our hearts and I was hurt when I saw most people speaking negatively about Qatar. It’s not fair at all.”
This release by Nasser Al-Khelaïfi follows the words of Gianni Infantino. The boss of FIFA, the international body which gave the organization of the 2022 World Cup to Qatar at the end of 2012, also reacted to the various controversies in a punchline which went around the planet. “Today I feel Qatari, today I feel Arab, today I feel African, today I feel gay, today I feel disabled, today I feel migrant worker . I know what it feels like to be discriminated against, to be made fun of. I was mocked because I had red hair and freckles.”
