This followed a media frenzy during the week over the Brazilian winger’s celebrations. In a statement posted on social networks, Atlético Madrid strongly condemned these actions.
“Atlético de Madrid unequivocally condemns the inadmissible chants that a minority of supporters held outside the stadium before the derby was held. Racism is one of the greatest scourges of our society and unfortunately the world of football and clubs is not exempt from it. Our club has always been characterized by being an open and inclusive space for fans of different nationalities, cultures, races and social classes and few cannot tarnish the image of thousands and thousands of athletes who support their team with passion and respect for the rival. »
