Ghana defender Tariq Lamptey has credited Brazilian legend Dani Alves as a major influence on his career, saying the Barcelona great shaped his development as a modern full-back.
Speaking at his unveiling as a Fiorentina player, the 23-year-old Black Stars right-back admitted he grew up studying Alves’ style but revealed that his ultimate idol was Ronaldinho.
“I draw inspiration from Dani Alves. I grew up watching him, but my idol is Ronaldinho,” Lamptey said.
Lamptey joined Fiorentina this summer from English Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion, signing a four-year deal despite interest from other clubs.
“Yes, there were other offers, but when Fiorentina explained their project to me, I didn’t think twice. I wanted to come right away. Every team presents a different challenge, and that helps me improve as a player,” he added.
The Ghana international made his Serie A debut last weekend against Napoli, beginning what he hopes will be a successful new chapter in Italy.
