Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC have officially announced the signing of Ghanaian defender Wahab Ackwei, marking a significant addition to their roster in preparation for the upcoming 2024 USL Championship season.
However, the completion of the deal is pending approval from both the league and the federation.
The 27-year-old defender comes with a commendable track record, having previously played for Rio Grande Valley FC.
Ackwei earned recognition in the 2022 Championship All-League Second Team. His contributions included 56 appearances and instrumental involvement in Rio Grande Valley FC’s journey to the USL Championship Playoffs.
Ackwei has accumulated a total of 72 championship appearances throughout his career, showcasing his versatility. His previous stints include playing for New York Red Bulls II and Loudoun United FC.
With four goals, five assists, a duel success rate of 60.3%, and an impressive tackle success rate of 63.9%, Ackwei brings a wealth of experience and skills to the Switchbacks.
