Strasbourg defender Alexander Djiku is optimistic that the club will recover from their poor start to the French Ligue 1 season.

Strasbourg, who missed out on European football by a whisker last season, are struggling this season, with only five points from seven games.

Strasbourg have failed to win a game, drawing five and losing five. Fans are concerned, but Djiku remains upbeat.

“No, there is no rush. Draws do not help us advance, we will have to taste victory again. If we continue like this, success will stop running away from us. In front of Clermont (0-0), we had many chances without managing to score. […] During the final matches, we found pep, play, intensity and commitment. We need to translate this progress into victory,” he said.

Strasbourg’s next game is an away match against Montpellier, Djiku’s hometown club, and the central defender is looking forward to it.

He said: “Montpellier is a very good team. They concede a lot of goals but also score a lot. We have to be very good and incisive defensively. If we perform at this level, we will have opportunities and we can win. We know his game, his individualities. Savanier, Khazri, whom I knew well in Bastia, or the little Wahi in front…”

“I know the profile of Wahi very well, who is a very tonic attacker, very fast and skilful in the spaces. Before, I prepared my match with the video analyst. Now I do it alone with the Wyscout app. I’m going to watch these last two or three games to block him as best I can.”

Djiku has scored one goal in seven games this season.
