Sports Minister Kofi Adams has confirmed that the government owes bonuses to all of Ghana’s national football teams but assured that payments will be made soon.
His comments come amid tension in the Black Queens camp over unpaid bonuses from their third-place finish at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
The Black Queens resumed training on Monday after boycotting sessions for two days ahead of Tuesday’s crucial qualifier against Egypt in Accra.
“Well, maybe the management of the Black Stars have done things better. It’s not like we never owe the Black Stars. All teams are owed, but they will be paid,” Adams told Joy Sports.
“The Satellites are owed. The Black Stars, we only paid their final bonuses recently, after their qualifiers. The Princesses, we haven’t paid fully what is due them. So all national teams are owed one thing or another. But the government will surely pay.”
Each Black Queens player is reportedly owed $9,500 for their bronze-winning campaign in Morocco.
Adams added that the Ministry has already received the necessary financial approvals to settle the outstanding payments.
“These have gotten approvals. It’s not like we are debating approvals here,” he said.
The Black Queens take a 3–0 aggregate lead into Tuesday’s WAFCON qualifier second leg against Egypt at the Accra Sports Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 15:30 GMT.
