Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has delivered an in-depth analysis of South Korea ahead of Tuesday’s international friendly, describing the Taegeuk Warriors as a well-balanced, high-quality side with threats in every department.

Addo revealed that his technical team has spent days reviewing Korea’s recent matches, and the conclusion is clear: Ghana will face an opponent with elite talent and strong tactical discipline.

“We saw a lot of matches from South Korea. We know what they are capable of,” Addo said. “They have a lot of very good players in defence, like Kim from Bayern Munich. But also up front, they are very strong with Lee from PSG and Son, definitely.

Wang, for example, and another Lee from Mainz. So, we know them very well; they have had some good results. Also, the last result against Bolivia ;  they played very well. So, we know their strength. It is going to be a difficult match. I think it is going to be even, and we are looking forward to the match tomorrow.”

The Ghana coach highlighted several Korean strengths:

  • Defensive solidity led by Bayern Munich’s Kim Min-jae
  • Technical and attacking quality from PSG’s Lee Kang-in
  • World-class leadership and finishing from captain Son Heung-min
  • High-intensity pressing and work rate, a hallmark of Korean football
  • A squad with consistent chemistry, unlike Ghana’s current injury-hit group

Addo also stressed that facing top-tier sides like South Korea is crucial to Ghana’s long-term rebuilding plan, especially with multiple first-team players sidelined.

“These matches help the new boys grow. We are testing combinations and gaining experience,” he said.

The Black Stars and South Korea share a dramatic recent history ;  most notably Ghana’s 3-2 victory at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, where Mohammed Kudus scored twice in one of the tournament’s most thrilling games.

The test in Seoul now provides another chance to measure Ghana’s progress as preparations intensify ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
