A new Pimpong is making noise in Europe and this one is moving fast.
Malik Pimpong, an 18-year-old Danish-Ghanaian left winger, gave fans a glimpse of what could be a very exciting future after marking his senior debut for FC Midtjylland in style. The teenager scored two goals in a 3–0 friendly win over Ukrainian side Kryvbas, finishing with the kind of calm and precision that immediately turned heads.
Match highlights showed Malik ghosting into dangerous areas and calmly slotting home from close range the sort of composure you don’t often see from a player making his first appearance at senior level.
The name Pimpong, of course, carries weight in Ghanaian football circles. Malik is the son of former Black Stars striker Razak Pimpong, who won 28 caps for Ghana and featured at the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany. But Malik is quickly proving that he’s more than just a famous surname.
Born in 2008 and eligible to represent both Denmark and Ghana, the winger is already being talked about as a potential target for Ghana’s national setup. Social media reaction to his debut has been swift, with fans and analysts urging the Ghana Football Association to move early particularly with a new U23 cycle on the horizon.
And the numbers back up the excitement.
At youth level, Malik’s form has been nothing short of outstanding. He has scored 12 goals in 12 league games for Midtjylland’s U19 side, while also netting four goals in four UEFA Youth League appearances. Those returns hint at a player developing at serious speed, with confidence growing match by match.
Interestingly, Transfermarkt currently lists his market value at zero, a reminder of how early this chapter still is. But in reality, Malik Pimpong looks like a talent very much on the rise one that won’t stay under the radar for long as European scouts and national teams take notice.
