Real Betis remain determined to re-sign Morocco midfielder Sofyan Amrabat, who spent last season on loan at the club, but negotiations with Fenerbahce continue to be complicated by the Turkish side’s demands for a permanent transfer.
Amrabat is still one of Real Betis’ leading options to strengthen the defensive midfield position. The club believe his return could provide Manuel Pellegrini’s side with the additional protection and balance required in the centre of the pitch.
According to Spanish newspaper AS, the arrival of Vascon Bernal has already given Betis greater solidity and balance in midfield. However, Pellegrini remains convinced that his squad needs another specialist in a defensive role, and considers Amrabat capable of filling that gap.
The main obstacle remains the asking price. Fenerbahce are seeking a fee of more than €10m to allow Amrabat to leave permanently, a figure Real Betis are currently unable to meet.
That financial gap has prevented the deal from progressing, despite the player remaining keen on a return to the Benito Villamarin. Amrabat has received other offers, but is waiting for greater clarity over his future while hoping to continue his career in La Liga.
The Morocco international was satisfied with the way he adapted during his first year at Real Betis and favours the possibility of rejoining the club. All parties would like the situation to be resolved soon, although the financial terms remain the central issue in the negotiations.
For Amrabat, the sporting appeal of a return is also clear. He believes he could play an important role in a season in which Champions League football would provide an additional incentive. Pellegrini is expected to need greater depth across most areas of his squad, making another defensive midfield option particularly valuable.
Real Betis therefore continue to hold Amrabat as a priority target, but their interest has not yet translated into an agreement with Fenerbahce. The player’s preference is to return to the Spanish club, while Betis must determine whether a permanent transfer can be completed without reaching the fee currently being requested.
Until that issue is resolved, the prospect of Amrabat returning to La Liga remains open but uncertain.
