Senegal’s national football team, the Teranga Lions, arrived in Dakar with the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) trophy, receiving a hero’s welcome at the airport.
The team, led by captain Kalidou Koulibaly, was greeted by President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko, and other senior government officials.
The players were honored with a rousing reception, with fans waving Senegalese flags, blowing horns, and chanting in celebration.
The team’s victory parade is scheduled for Tuesday morning, with the route passing through Dakar’s iconic Corniche highway.
The team will also meet with President Faye at the Presidential Palace later in the day.
Senegal won their second AFCON title, defeating host Morocco 1-0 in a dramatic final that was marred by controversy over a late penalty award.
