Head coach of Ghana’s U-20 women’s national team, Charles Sampson, says preparations for the upcoming FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifier against South Africa are progressing ahead of schedule.
The Black Princesses are chasing an eighth consecutive appearance at the global tournament and have built momentum following a dominant 4-0 aggregate victory over Tunisia in the second round of the qualifiers.
Speaking on the atmosphere and quality in camp, Sampson expressed delight with what he has seen so far, particularly the integration of new faces into the squad.
“Preparations are going on well. So far, it’s looking really good and very interesting. We’ve got some new faces to look at, and it’s very impressive,” he said.
“It’s going even better than I thought. It looks like they know each other already, so you can see that a relationship is already building.”
The team opened camp in Accra in the first week of January, although several players are yet to report. The technical team expects the squad to be fully assembled in the coming days, allowing for further tactical refinement and improved cohesion.
Sampson believes the blend of experienced players and emerging talents has given the team a strong foundation as they prepare for the decisive two-legged tie.
Ghana will host South Africa in the first leg of the qualifier between February 6 and 8, 2026, before travelling for the return leg scheduled for February 12 to 14.
With confidence growing in camp, the Black Princesses will be aiming to maintain their impressive qualifying record and book another place at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
