The potential move of Asante Kotoko captain Samba O’Neil to Tanzanian giants Simba SC has reportedly collapsed, with the player’s commitment to ensuring his current club benefits financially cited as the key reason.
Sources indicate that Simba SC had expressed interest in signing O’Neil on a free transfer at the end of the season, once his contract with Kotoko expires. However, the midfielder and club captain rejected the offer, insisting that any move away from the Porcupine Warriors should include a transfer fee to reward the club for his services.
Samba O’Neil has reportedly asked his representatives to find a club willing to pay a fee and has even requested a six-month contract extension at Kotoko to facilitate such a deal.
Other clubs have already shown serious interest. UAE-based Dubai City FC and Israeli giants Maccabi Tel Aviv have submitted formal offers reportedly in the range of $100,000 to $150,000, with negotiations ongoing.
For now, O’Neil remains with Asante Kotoko, committed to helping the club while exploring options that would ensure they receive fair compensation for his transfer.
The development underscores O’Neil’s loyalty to Kotoko and his insistence on protecting the club’s financial interests, even amid strong interest from abroad.
