During the 2022 Ballon d’Or ceremony, held at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, striker Sadio Mané won the first Sócrates Trophy in history for his involvement in Senegal, where he built schools and hospitals, especially in his hometown of Bambali: “I am very happy. Sometimes I can seem shy, but I’m happy to do this to make life better for people back home.”said the Bayern Munich player.
This year the The Team Group partnered with the organization Peace and Sport and the family of former Brazilian international Sócrates with the aim of creating a symbolic seventh trophy to be awarded at the traditional ceremony. It rewards the social commitment of a professional footballer “having carried out solidarity actions in favor of inclusion and equal opportunities and in connection with changes in society”. The jury was made up of Rai, brother of Sócrates and former captain of PSG and the Seleção, of Sóstenes, general director of the foundation Gol de letraby Joël Bouzou and Jean-Jérôme Perrin-Mortier, Chairman and CEO of Peace and Sport as well as Jérôme Cazadieu and Pascal Ferré, editorial director and editor-in-chief of France Soccer.
