Sabit Abdulai will spend several months away from football after undergoing surgery on a serious knee injury.

The Ghanaian midfielder sustained the problem while playing for F.C. Alverca in a league match against C.F. Estrela da Amadora.

Medical examinations later confirmed damage to his Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL), forcing the player to go under the knife.

The procedure has been completed successfully, but the recovery process is expected to keep him out of action for a long period.

Doctors estimate the 26-year-old could be sidelined for about six to seven months as he works through rehabilitation.

Before the injury setback, Abdulai had been actively involved in Alverca’s campaign this season.

He made 19 appearances for the Portuguese side across all competitions prior to the operation.

The defensive midfielder previously had a spell with Spanish club Getafe CF earlier in his career.

On the international stage, he has represented Ghana at youth level with the U-20 and U-23 teams.
