Former Kpando Heart of Lions defender Ruben Hennessy is set to join Asante Kotoko’s pre-season camp in Accra, where he will be assessed as the club continues preparations for the 2026/27 season.
The centre-back has been invited to train with the Porcupine Warriors after the club switched its attention to him following the departure of its first-choice target, Pius Baffour Awuah, to Heart of Lions.
Asante Kotoko had been interested in signing Awuah but were unable to submit an offer before the defender completed his move to the Giant Killers. That left the club looking for another defensive option as head coach Eric Tinkler works to shape his squad for the new campaign.
Hennessy will now have the chance to impress Tinkler and the rest of the technical team during the club’s camp in Accra. His performances in pre-season are expected to determine whether he can earn a place in the squad for the upcoming season.
The defender has spent the past three seasons playing in the Ghana Premier League and has made more than 80 appearances in the competition. That experience at the top level of Ghanaian football is likely to be an important factor as Kotoko assess his suitability for the team.
Hennessy’s physical presence and familiarity with the demands of the domestic league could make him a strong candidate for the Porcupine Warriors. However, he must first convince the coaching staff that he can meet the club’s requirements and contribute to their plans for the new campaign.
His invitation comes as Asante Kotoko continue to strengthen their squad ahead of the 2026/27 season. The club’s decision to bring him into the pre-season group gives the defender an opportunity to secure a move after the side missed out on Awuah.
For Hennessy, the immediate focus will be on making a positive impression in training. He will be looking to use the opportunity in Accra to demonstrate his ability and show the Kotoko technical team that he deserves a place in the squad.
The assessment will give Tinkler and his staff the chance to evaluate the former Kpando Heart of Lions player in a competitive environment before final decisions are made on the composition of the team for the new season.
