AC Milan allegedly declined the summer opportunity to add Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku to their roster.
The Belgium international joined from Milan’s San Siro rivals Inter Milan for a stunning £97.5 million but has been banished to the bench in recent months following a string of underwhelming outings.
Lukaku also claimed last year that he desired a return to Inter Milan, resulting in a tense relationship with the Blues crowd as he strives to improve on his meager Premier League record of five goals.
AC Milan were said to be interested in acquiring Lukaku from Chelsea this summer, but Gazzetta dello Sport – via football.london – now believes that the Rossoneri have abandoned their pursuit of the former Everton and Manchester United striker.
According to the source, Milan’s deal with Divock Origi precludes them from pursuing Lukaku, who is set to depart Liverpool on a free transfer this summer.
Lukaku is under contract at Stamford Bridge until the summer of 2026, but was substituted around the hour mark of Wednesday’s 4-2 defeat to Arsenal.
