Atletico Madrid will look to continue their pursuit of second place in the La Liga table when they face Real Valladolid at Estadio Jose Zorrilla on Sunday night.

With seven games remaining, Atletico find themselves only two points behind Real Madrid and 13 points inside the Champions League places.

At the opposite end of the standings, Valladolid occupy 14th place. Not only are they 28 points behind Atletico, but they are also just four points clear of the relegation zone.

Real Valladolid suffered a 2-1 defeat at Valencia on Thursday, meaning they have lost three of their previous six league matches.

When you look at the bigger picture, Valladolid have suffered 10 defeats in their last 18 games across all competitions, leaving them in danger of relegation.

It is also worth noting that Real Valladolid are the third-lowest scorers in the division, having netted 27 goals in 31 outings this season.

Although Valladolid can take confidence from the fact that they have lost just one of their last six home games, they will struggle to keep Atletico quiet on Sunday.

Atletico Madrid, meanwhile, claimed a 3-1 victory over Mallorca in midweek, racking up 24 shots while enjoying 69% possession on home soil.

Diego Simeone’s men have now won seven of their last eight matches, scoring over 1.5 goals in six of those victories.

Better still, Atletico have suffered a solitary defeat in their previous 15 La Liga encounters, picking up 11 wins along the way.

It is also worth pointing out that Atletico Madrid boast the second-best defensive record in La Liga, having conceded 23 goals in 31 matches this term.

Head-to-head: Atletico Madrid have won each of their last four league meetings with Real Valladolid, keeping three clean sheets in the process.

To make matters worse for Valladolid, they have failed to win any of their previous 13 La Liga matches against Atletico.

Team news: Real Valladolid will be without midfielder Anuar for the foreseeable future as the Moroccan continues to recover from a ligament injury.

Atletico Madrid’s injury list contains Jan Oblak, Memphis Depay, Marcos Llorente, Stefan Savic and Reinildo Mandava.

Having won seven of their last eight matches, Atletico Madrid are expected to claim all three points at Estadio Jose Zorrilla this weekend.

Forebet predicts that Real Valladolid will push the visitors all the way, but Atletico should have enough firepower to come away with the victory.
