Real Madrid have submitted an improved contract proposal to Vinicius Jr in an attempt to secure the Brazil winger’s future at the club, with Arsenal ready to step up their interest if he turns it down.
The 26-year-old is in the final 12 months of his current agreement and has been the subject of growing interest from Arsenal in recent weeks.
Negotiations between Vinicius and Real Madrid had reached an impasse, but the Spanish club have now put forward fresh terms. Vinicius is understood to appreciate the improved offer, and Real Madrid are waiting for him to decide whether to accept it.
The club expect an answer within hours rather than days.
Senior figures at Real Madrid, including returning head coach Jose Mourinho, are now hopeful the forward will agree to renew his contract. Should Vinicius reject the proposal, Arsenal are prepared to accelerate their pursuit of the Brazilian.
Vinicius signed a contract extension with Real Madrid three years ago which runs until 2027. Despite that agreement, the club and the player’s representatives have spent the past 18 months discussing a further deal.
The winger returned to Real Madrid on Monday for his first pre-season training session and medical assessment after taking part in Brazil’s World Cup campaign.
Vinicius has made 375 appearances for Real Madrid in all competitions and has scored 128 goals. He is believed to want a financial package that reflects his status as the club’s leading star.
However, Real Madrid have traditionally maintained a strict salary structure under president Florentino Perez, which has been a central consideration during the negotiations.
Vinicius has spoken publicly about his affection for the club, describing Real Madrid as “the club of my dreams” and saying he wants to remain there “for many years”.
Arsenal have identified Vinicius as their priority target on the left wing if his position at Real Madrid changes. The Premier League club’s interest could therefore develop quickly should the Brazilian decide not to accept the latest offer.
For now, Real Madrid are awaiting a response to their revised proposal as they attempt to prevent Arsenal from making further progress in their pursuit of one of their most important attacking players.
