Real Madrid close in on Yan Diomande as €125m deal becomes club’s biggest transfer

Real Madrid have reached an agreement with RB Leipzig for the signing of Ivory Coast forward Yan Diomande, with the player travelling to Madrid for a medical ahead of a proposed move to the Santiago Bernabeu this summer.

The final arrangements for the transfer were completed on Thursday morning, according to Marca. Real Madrid could formally announce the deal later on Thursday, with the transfer set to become the most expensive in the club’s history.

The initial fee for Diomande is expected to be €125m, with a further €10m to €15m potentially payable in add-ons. The agreement would represent a significant investment by Real Madrid and would establish a new record for the Spanish club.

Diomande is already on his way to Madrid to undergo the required medical examinations. The transfer will only be officially confirmed once those formalities have been completed and the relevant documentation has been finalised.

Real Madrid’s overall spending this summer includes €55m for Marc Cucurella, €25m for Carlos Espai and €20m for Denzel Dumfries. Those figures come in addition to the €125m committed to Diomande.

Ibrahima Konate and Bernardo Silva have joined the club on free transfers, while Real Madrid have also generated substantial income from player sales. The club’s academy has brought in a total of €184.5m through the departures of youth-team players, meaning the revenue generated from transfers is close to the amount spent on new signings.

The move for Diomande is not expected to affect Real Madrid’s position in negotiations with Vinicius Junior. The Brazil international’s contract expires at the end of next season, and there is significant interest from Arsenal in signing him.

Marca reported that Diomande’s arrival should therefore be considered separately from the discussions surrounding Vinicius Junior’s future. Real Madrid are continuing to assess the situation despite the contract uncertainty and the reported interest from the Premier League club.

The agreement with RB Leipzig brings Real Madrid close to completing their pursuit of the Ivory Coast international. The club now await the outcome of Diomande’s medical before deciding whether to make the record-breaking transfer official.

If confirmed, the deal would make Diomande the most expensive player ever signed by Real Madrid, exceeding the club’s previous transfer outlays and underlining the scale of their investment in this summer’s recruitment.
