Raphinha did not claim Barcelona ‘are better than Real Madrid’ –

Reports claiming that Raphinha said that Barcelona ‘are better than Real Madrid’ are the result of a mistranslation.

The Brazil international spoke to the media after scoring his first Barca goal in their 6-0 pre-season win over Inter Miami on Tuesday, and was reported to have claimed that the Blaugrana are superior to their eternal foes.

Raphinha supposedly said that Barca are better than Real, but this has come about through a mistranslation.

“Tenho muita vontade de jogar esses jogos, que são os melhores,” Raphinha said, which translates to, “I am very eager to play these games because they are the best [the games].”

However, Spanish media misheard this as ‘somos mejores’, which is Spanish for ‘we’re better’, hence creating the confusion.

Barcelona will take on Real Madrid in their second friendly on their pre-season tour of the US on Saturday – their first meeting since beating Los Blancos 4-0 at the Santiago Bernabeu towards the end of the 2021/22 campaign.

Barca are scheduled to return to the Bernabeu on October 16, and will welcome Real Madrid to Camp Nou on March 19.
