Rangnick reportedly ‘punishing’ Hannibal with return to the Under-23s

According to reports, Manchester United interim manager, Ralf Rangnick was disappointed with teenager Hannibal Mejbri’s cameo appearance against Liverpool and thus sent him back to the Under-23s.

The 19-year-old is now one of the hottest talents in Premier League youth football and was expected to play a significant amount of minutes in the remaining games of the season, beginning with six minutes as a late substitution in the 4-0 loss to Liverpool.

Hannibal was commended for his aggressive and energetic attitude, which earned him a yellow card just four minutes after entering the game. However, despite the fact that fans were pleased to see the kid striving to make an impression, ESPN reports that Rangnick was quite dissatisfied.

It is said that Rangnick spoke with Hannibal about his ‘reckless and unpredictable’ performance and that he did not feel he was ready for a permanent place in the senior team, so he ‘punished’ him by sending him back to the Under-23 program.

The teen was omitted from the team that went to Arsenal, was an unused substitute in the 1-1 draw with Chelsea, and was left out of the squad for the 3-0 victory against Brentford, for which Alejandro Garnacho and Alvaro Fernandez were included.
