Heart of Lions owner Dr. Randy Abbey is overflowing with pride as his team stands on the cusp of a historic achievement in the Ghana Premier League.

Currently third in the league standings with 54 points, just three points behind leaders Nations FC, the Kpando-based club have been impressive this season after battling with relegation last term.

Abbey’s desire for the team is clear: win the league title for the first time and qualify for the CAF Champions League.

“I would want to win the league for the first time and also play in Africa (CAF Champions League),” he told 3Sports.

Despite a challenging schedule ahead, with three away games and only one home game in their last four matches, Abbey is proud of his team’s achievements so far.

“For all the teams that are in the title race, we have the most difficult games. Because prior to the last games, for the four games we had to play, we had three away games and only one game at home. I’m pushing the boys and proud of what they have achieved so far.”

The team’s solid performances are reflected in their statistics, with 33 goals scored, joint-second in the league’s top scorers, and 20 goals conceded, joint-fourth best in defense.

As the season nears its climax, Abbey’s enthusiasm is palpable.

“Whichever way it ends, if we win the league I will be the happiest man on earth but I’m even impressed with what we have done so far and I’m happy with the team. I think that we can even do better in subsequent seasons.”

With three games left, Heart of Lions faces a tough test against Young Apostles, followed by a home match against Bechem United.

The team will need to summon all their strength and determination to overcome the challenges ahead and potentially win their first league title.
