Ghanaian midfielder Rahim Ibrahim scored the opening goal as Slovan Bratislava began their Slovak Super Liga campaign with a convincing 3-0 victory over Zeleziarne Podbrezova.

The 24-year-old made the breakthrough in the seventh minute, finishing high into the centre of the net after meeting a well-weighted cross from Daiki Matsuoka.

Ibrahim had gone close only moments earlier when his powerful effort from distance narrowly missed the target in the third minute. He made no mistake with his second opportunity, giving the Slovak champions an ideal start.

The former Ghana youth international was one of Slovan Bratislava’s most influential players during the first half. His understanding with Matsuoka helped the hosts control the tempo, while Ibrahim’s movement, energy and intelligent passing kept Zeleziarne Podbrezova under sustained pressure.

Slovan Bratislava continued to dictate the match after the interval and extended their advantage through Alen Mustafic.

Mustafic scored in the 68th minute before adding a second 11 minutes later, completing a 3-0 victory and ensuring Slovan collected all three points.

The result provided another positive display from Ibrahim, who is continuing to establish himself as an important part of Slovan Bratislava’s midfield.

Since joining the Slovak club, the technically gifted midfielder has become a regular contributor. His performances have earned praise for his composure in possession, defensive work rate and ability to support attacks from midfield.

Against Zeleziarne Podbrezova, those qualities were evident from the opening stages. Ibrahim contributed at both ends of the pitch, combining his defensive effort with a willingness to move forward and threaten the opposition goal.

His early goal also underlined his growing influence within the team. After missing with his first effort, Ibrahim responded immediately when the opportunity arrived again, giving Slovan Bratislava the lead and setting the tone for a dominant performance.

Slovan’s attention now turns to European competition. The Slovak champions will host Swedish side Mjallby on 4 August in a crucial UEFA Champions League qualifying fixture.

Ibrahim is expected to play an important role in that match as Slovan Bratislava attempt to reach the next round.
