Rahim Ibrahim scored after seven minutes as Slovan Bratislava began their Slovak league campaign with a commanding 3-0 win over Zeleziarne Podbrezova.
The Ghanaian midfielder provided the decisive early moment, meeting a clever cross from Daiki Matsuoka and sending his finish high into the centre of the goal.
Ibrahim had already warned Podbrezova of the threat he posed before opening the scoring. In the third minute, he tried his luck from distance but saw his effort fly narrowly over the crossbar.
His goal, four minutes later, gave Slovan Bratislava the ideal start and established the pattern for much of the match. The home side controlled possession and territory, while Podbrezova found it difficult to deal with the movement and attacking energy of Ibrahim and Matsuoka.
The pair repeatedly drove Slovan forward during the opening half, forcing the visitors to retreat and make mistakes. Slovan Bratislava created further opportunities before the interval and came close to doubling their advantage.
Podbrezova remained in contention at half-time largely because of the performance of goalkeeper Martin Trnovsky. He made several important saves to prevent Slovan from taking a more substantial lead into the break.
The visitors needed a stronger response after the restart, but Slovan Bratislava continued to manage the game with patience. Rather than allowing Podbrezova back into the contest, the home side maintained control and waited for further openings.
Those opportunities arrived in the closing stages, with Alen Mustafic taking charge of the scoring. He doubled Slovan’s advantage in the 68th minute before completing the victory with his second goal of the match 11 minutes later.
The two goals ensured a comfortable finish for Slovan Bratislava and turned Ibrahim’s early strike into the foundation of a convincing result. Podbrezova did have moments during the match, but they were unable to trouble the Slovan defence often or seriously enough to alter the outcome.
For Slovan Bratislava, the result offered a strong display of attacking sharpness and defensive control. Ibrahim’s early contribution set the tone, Matsuoka helped create the opening goal, and Mustafic’s late double settled the contest.
The next challenge comes quickly for Slovan Bratislava. They host Mjallby on 4 August in Champions League qualification, a fixture that will require the same intensity and precision shown in their win over Zeleziarne Podbrezova.
The meeting with Mjallby will provide a different test, but Slovan’s performance offered an encouraging platform. They made an immediate impact through Ibrahim, retained control when Podbrezova threatened, and finished strongly enough to secure a three-goal victory.
