Ghana’s President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has dismissed Dr. Dodzie Numekevor, Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), with immediate effect.
The decision follows the Confederation of African Football (CAF) withdrawing the Baba Yara Sports Stadium’s license to host international matches due to its poor condition.
CAF’s action was sparked by the stadium’s subpar state, aggravated by a six-day church program held prior to the AFCON 2025 qualifier against Angola.
CAF had recommended reconstructing the Baba Yara pitch and criticized the state of the Accra and Cape Coast Sports stadia in a September 10 letter to the Ghana Football Association.
Ghana now faces the possibility of playing their home match against Sudan outside the country, with Togo being considered as a potential host.
Dr. Dodzie Numekevor came into office as an interim Director General of the NSA since 26 February 2024, succeeding Professor Peter Twumasi, who vacate the position after six years.
