A Premier League star, arrested in the early hours of Monday morning in north London following allegations of rape, is facing two further allegations from a different woman, according to Telegraph Sport.
The player was arrested at an address in Barnet, north London, and remained in custody on Tuesday afternoon. While his identity must remain anonymous for legal reasons, he was described as ‘internationally renowned’, while he is also due to play at the World Cup this November.
The initial case related to accusations made about an altercation in late June, while the player was on holiday in the Mediterranean, and a police spokesperson told the media:
‘On July 4, an allegation of rape of a woman in her 20s was reported to police.’
“On 4 July, a 29-year-old man was arrested at an address in Barnet on suspicion of rape and taken into custody where he remains.
“Enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing.”
Now, it has emerged that a further two allegations have been levelled at the same player by a different woman, as per the Telegraph.
An updated statement added: “While in custody, he was further arrested on suspicion of two incidents of rape that were alleged to have been committed in April and June of 2021 against a different woman in her 20s. He has subsequently been released on bail to a date in August. Enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing.”
The Telegraph add that ‘the club has been contacted by Telegraph Sport and is aware the player is being questioned’.
It remains to be seen whether the player will join up with their club’s pre-season engagements, or whether he will be available to participate in their first game of the season on the weekend of August 6th.
