Pep Guardiola aims a dig at Liverpool

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has aimed a dig at Liverpool on the number of times they have won the Premier League.

While the Spaniard did acknowledge that the Reds have an ‘incredible history’ in the Champions League, he claimed that everyone in England wanted the Jurgen Klopp side to win the title owing to the history they share with Man United.

“One week ago, nobody even… we were one point in front, everyone in this country supports Liverpool, the media and everyone. Of course, because Liverpool has an incredible history in Europe, not in (the) Premier League, because they’ve only won one in 30 years, but it’s not a problem at all,” Guardiola is quoted by the Athletic.

Pressed further to explain his claims that people wanted the Reds to win the title, Guardiola added:

“Liverpool alongside United is the most important teams in terms of legacy, history, dramas. But we have in the last 11-12 years always been there. I know we are sometimes uncomfortable, but I don’t care. If the people want Liverpool more (to) win than us, it’s not the issue. It’s normal.”

City are currently three points above the Reds on the table with three games left to play.
