FC Samartex General Manager Edmund Ackah has dismissed suggestions that the club’s 2024/25 season was a failure, despite a disappointing seventh-place finish in the Ghana Premier League.
The Timber Giants entered the campaign as defending champions with hopes of retaining the title they won in historic fashion last season. However, they ended the season with 51 points; well behind new champions Bibiani GoldStars.
Speaking on Asempa FM, Ackah insisted that context is crucial when evaluating the club’s performance.
“The one who placed second last season got 51 points. We had the same number of points this season and finished seventh. So our season can’t be described as a failure,” he argued.
He pointed to increased competition in the league and the demands of continental football as contributing factors to Samartex’s league position.
The club’s early exit from the CAF Champions League, coupled with injuries to key players, further hampered their campaign.
“We had major injury issues in our preparation for the Champions League,” Ackah explained.
“We missed a number of key players during the season, including Baba Amando and Mankuyeli.”
Despite the setbacks, Ackah remains optimistic about the club’s progress and believes the experience from this season will strengthen Samartex going forward.
