Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has formally requested an expansion of his technical team as Ghana intensifies preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, according to Ghana Football Association Communications Director Henry Asante Twum.
Speaking in an interview with Sporty FM, Asante Twum confirmed that the Black Stars coach has made it clear to the GFA that additional technical support is needed ahead of football’s biggest global showpiece.
“I am aware that Otto Addo has requested to beef up the Black Stars technical team,” Asante Twum disclosed. “This is the biggest football tournament and he believes we must go there with the best.”
Ghana will be making their fifth World Cup appearance when the expanded 48-team tournament kicks off in the summer of 2026. The Black Stars have been drawn into Group I, where they will face Panama, England and Croatia in what promises to be a demanding group.
The GFA has already moved to strengthen the backroom staff, bringing in experienced figures such as Winfried Schäfer, Desmond Ofei and Gregory De Grauwe. Addo’s latest request suggests further additions could follow as Ghana look to leave nothing to chance.
The Black Stars will open their group campaign against Panama on June 17 in Toronto, before facing England in Boston and wrapping up the group stage against Croatia on June 27 in Philadelphia.
Having suffered group-stage exits at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and the 2022 tournament in Qatar, Ghana are determined to make a deeper run in 2026. As part of preparations, the team is scheduled to face Germany in a high-profile international friendly in Stuttgart on March 30.
With the countdown to the World Cup underway, Addo’s push for a reinforced technical setup underlines Ghana’s ambition to arrive on the global stage fully prepared.
