Oshoala returns as Madugu names final 24-woman squad for 2024 WAFCON

Super Falcons head coach Justine Madugu has announced his final 24-player squad for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), with Bay FC striker Asisat Oshoala making a much-anticipated return after nearly a year away from the national team.

Oshoala, who last featured for Nigeria during the 2024 Olympic Games qualifiers, rejoins a strong lineup that includes team captain Rasheedat Ajibade, goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, and experienced players Francisca Ordega, Osinachi Ohale, Ashleigh Plumptre, and Michelle Alozie.

Three home-based players also made the cut ; goalkeeper Rachael Unachukwu and defenders Shikimate Isah and Miracle Usani reflecting Madugu’s commitment to blending local talent with international experience.

The Super Falcons are scheduled to face Portugal in a friendly in Lisbon on Monday, followed by a high-stakes encounter against rivals Ghana in Morocco on Sunday, June 29, as part of their final preparations for the tournament.

Morocco will host the 2024 WAFCON from Saturday, July 5 to Saturday, July 26.
