Ghana’s boxing heritage and the legacy of the country’s first President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah, will be celebrated at the inaugural Osagyefo Fight Night in Accra on Saturday, 19 September 2026.
The event, launched by newly established boxing promotions syndicate Obra Sports, will take place at the Bukom Boxing Arena and will be broadcast live across Africa on Supersports on DSTV.
One of the headline attractions will be rising Ghanaian boxer Theophilus Kpakpo Allotey, known as Theo Lopez, who is scheduled to face a top-five world-ranked opponent. The identity of that opponent is yet to be announced.
The card will also feature WBA Africa Super Lightweight champion Jerry Lartey. The opponents for both Allotey and Lartey are due to be confirmed at a major event next week.
Organisers say Osagyefo Fight Night is intended to be more than a conventional boxing promotion. The event will combine elite-level competition with Ghanaian history, cultural pride and a focus on developing future sporting talent.
Its central theme is inspired by Dr Nkrumah’s vision of national pride, unity and youth empowerment. Boxing, one of Ghana’s most successful sporting disciplines, will be used as the platform for encouraging a new generation of champions.
“Every generation has a responsibility to preserve its legacy and inspire the next,” Obra Sports said in unveiling the event.
“Through Osagyefo Fight Night, we are proud to continue Ghana’s proud boxing tradition while creating opportunities for tomorrow’s champions.”
The date of the event has also been chosen for its symbolic importance. It falls close to the annual observance of Founder’s Day, which is held in recognition of Dr Nkrumah’s birthday and his contribution to Ghana’s independence and development.
The organisers believe the occasion will provide an appropriate tribute to a leader whose influence extended beyond politics. They say the fight night will reflect his commitment to empowering Ghanaian young people through sport and strengthening a shared sense of national identity.
Alongside the bouts involving Allotey and Lartey, supporters can expect appearances from some of Ghana’s brightest boxing prospects. The programme will include competitive match-ups designed both to entertain spectators and to provide a platform for emerging fighters.
Obra Sports said the event would reconnect Ghana’s celebrated boxing tradition with the principles associated with the nation’s founding father. The promotion is expected to bring together established champions and promising talents in a setting that places the sport within a wider national and cultural story.
With the event scheduled for the Bukom Boxing Arena, a venue closely associated with Ghanaian boxing, the organisers are aiming to create an evening that reflects both the country’s sporting history and its future ambitions.
Osagyefo Fight Night will therefore bring together title ambitions, international exposure and a commemoration of Ghana’s past. Organisers hope the event will reaffirm boxing’s position at the heart of Ghanaian sport while honouring Dr Kwame Nkrumah and inspiring the next generation of fighters.
