Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA) Yaw Ampofo-Ankrah will officially launch the 2026 Tampico Accra Inter-City Marathon on Tuesday, 18 August.
The launch will be held at the Zimansky Hotel in Roman Ridge, where sports personalities, former champions, sponsors and members of the media are expected to gather for the announcement.
Henri Senyo Penni, general manager of Medivents Consult, confirmed the launch on Monday. The event is also expected to attract the Chief Director of the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council, along with Directors of Sports from various security agencies.
The marathon itself will take place on Saturday, 10 October, with the Trust Sports Emporium at the Bukom Boxing Arena designated as both the starting point and the finish.
Organisers have included two race categories in the programme, offering participants the choice of a 21-kilometre event or a shorter 5-kilometre race.
The launch will formally set out the plans for the 2026 edition and bring together the principal groups connected with the competition, including officials, sporting figures, past champions, commercial partners and the media.
The involvement of the National Sports Authority means the launch will be led by the organisation’s director-general, while Medivents Consult has provided the confirmation of the event’s official unveiling.
Participants who wish to enter can register by dialling 32021# and paying a registration fee of GH¢100.
The two distances are intended to form the central competitive structure of the marathon, with the 21-kilometre category providing the longer challenge and the 5-kilometre race offering a shorter option. Both races will begin and end at the Trust Sports Emporium, located at the Bukom Boxing Arena.
The launch at the Zimansky Hotel will take place before the October race day and will serve as the main public presentation of the 2026 Tampico Accra Inter-City Marathon. The presence of sports officials, former champions, sponsors and media representatives is expected to give the occasion a broad sporting and organisational focus.
The event will be staged in Accra on 10 October, following the official launch by Ampofo-Ankrah on 18 August. Registration remains open to interested participants through the stated short code, with the fee set at GH¢100 for entry.
