Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, has dismissed reports suggesting a dispute between his outfit and Dr. Bryan Acheampong, Member of Parliament for Abetifi, over the ongoing Nkawkaw Stadium project.
Speaking before the Public Accounts Committee, Ampofo Ankrah clarified that there is no conflict or crisis, emphasizing that the issue revolves around legal documentation rather than disagreements.
“So, the NSA met with Dr. Bryan Acheampong and requested documentation that permitted him to continue the work since there was none on record,” he explained. “It’s about legality — having proper documentation that safeguards Honorable Bryan Acheampong’s work or whoever wishes to develop national assets.”
Construction of the ₵27 million project began in September 2020, under the Middle Belt Development Authority, but stalled for years. Dr. Acheampong later funded its continuation in a private capacity, though progress was again halted pending official clearance.
Ampofo Ankrah added that the NSA has since engaged the Omanhene of Kwahu to discuss the project’s future. “Hopefully, we will hear from the Omanhene and Dr. Bryan Acheampong soon so that we can move forward with the development of the Nkawkaw Sports Stadium,” he said.
