22Bet has appointed former Nigeria captain Daniel Amokachi as its Pan-African Brand Ambassador for Nigeria and the wider continent, in a move that strengthens the betting company’s links with some of Africa’s most prominent former footballers.
Amokachi was unveiled at a ceremony in Lagos on Wednesday attended by senior media figures, football supporters and representatives of 22Bet.
The former Nigeria international joins a growing ambassador programme that already includes Togo great Emmanuel Adebayor and former Kenya captain Victor Wanyama.
Adebayor, the 2008 African Footballer of the Year, has worked with 22Bet since 2022. Wanyama agreed a two-year partnership with the company in July 2026, with the deal also providing support for his foundation and football academy in Kenya.
Amokachi, nicknamed “The Bull” because of his powerful and direct playing style, was a key member of the Nigeria team that won the Africa Cup of Nations in 1994. Two years later, he helped the country win Olympic football gold at the Atlanta Games.
His club career included spells with Ranchers Bees, Club Brugge, Everton and Besiktas. He won the English FA Cup with Everton in 1995 and also collected domestic honours in Turkey with Besiktas.
Since retiring from playing, Amokachi has moved into coaching, football administration and youth development. He has also remained active in social-impact work, including youth empowerment, education and inclusion projects through his development foundation and his involvement with the United Nations’ Football for the Goals initiative.
The partnership is expected to place Amokachi at the centre of 22Bet’s community programmes, with a focus on grassroots football, education and assistance for less-privileged communities.
The company also plans to support football clinics, youth talent identification, healthy-living campaigns and initiatives that promote Nigerian culture and traditions. The proposed programmes are intended to give young players access to professional coaching, equipment, mentorship and scouting opportunities.
Amokachi said the agreement was intended to deliver more than commercial value and create practical benefits for communities in Nigeria and across Africa.
“I am delighted to join the 22Bet family. This is not an ordinary relationship but a relationship that is designed to make a positive impact on the lives of people in Nigeria and the whole of Africa,” the AFCON winner and Olympic Games gold medallist said at the unveiling ceremony in Lagos on Wednesday.
“I am more interested in doing something in Nigeria and Africa where we can make a big impact on the lives of people through CSR programmes that I have been doing already and also 22Bet have been doing already, especially in Nigeria and Africa.
“It is gratifying to make an impact on the lives of your own people especially through football that gave me a lot as a footballer. This is a family relationship so I am happy to join and look forward to making an impact on the lives of people.”
Oluwafemi Olobayo, Director of Operations for 22Bet Nigeria, said Amokachi’s experience and reputation made him well suited to the company’s community-focused work.

Football clinics will connect emerging players with experienced coaches and former professionals. Education and lifestyle projects are expected to promote discipline, physical fitness and responsible personal development.
Amokachi’s route from Nigerian domestic football to leading European clubs is also being presented as an example for young footballers seeking professional careers.

Amokachi’s appointment adds to a 22Bet ambassador network built around African sports figures with strong community connections. Adebayor has helped establish the company’s profile in West Africa, while the Wanyama partnership has been associated with grassroots development and the construction of a football academy in Kenya’s Busia County.
The company said the new arrangement reflected a wider Pan-African strategy combining brand growth with community initiatives led by former players who represented the continent at the highest level.
For Amokachi, the value of the partnership will ultimately depend on the opportunities it creates. The next step will be turning the publicity surrounding Wednesday’s unveiling into sustained football-development work, support for vulnerable communities and meaningful routes into the game for the next generation of African talent.
