The match ended with Santos securing their place in the last eight, but the atmosphere quickly became tense after the final whistle. Neymar moved towards the Remo substitutes’ bench and sections of the home support before repeatedly saying: “You’re out.”
His reaction provoked an angry response from those connected with Remo and led to a confrontation on the pitch. Several players intervened to prevent the situation from escalating and attempted to calm those involved.
Footage later circulated on social media appearing to show Neymar in the tunnel leading to the dressing rooms. In the video, he can be seen dancing in front of a number of people linked to Remo while pointing towards the Santos badge.
The scenes added controversy to what had been a narrowly decided tie. Santos’ victory at Mangueirao was enough to send them through, but the celebrations became the main talking point once the game had ended.
Neymar’s actions, particularly his gestures towards the home side and his repeated taunt, angered members of the club and supporters following Remo’s elimination. The intervention of other players helped contain the dispute inside the stadium.
The incident comes shortly after Neymar announced his retirement from international football. He made that decision approximately a week ago, following Brazil’s elimination from the last 16 of the 2026 World Cup.
Neymar’s future at club level is also the subject of attention, with his contract at Santos due to expire in December. For now, he remains part of the Santos side that has progressed to the quarter-finals of the Copa do Brasil, although his conduct after the win has overshadowed the result.
The 1-0 success at Mangueirao means Santos continue their challenge in the competition, while Remo’s campaign has ended amid the confrontation involving their players, supporters and Neymar.
