Newcastle United have become the latest club to focus their attentions on Brentford midfielder Christian Eriksen after his impressive return to English top flight football.
Eriksen has made a miraculous recovery in the nine months since he collapsed on the pitch in his country’s EURO 2020 opener between Denmark and Finland, and after fighting for his life and being released by Inter Milan, there were questions as to whether he would ever be able to play football again.
However, he has returned to professional football, joining Brentford in January on a six month contract, and seems unlikely to remain a Bee beyond that, with plenty of top clubs coming knocking as a result of his impressive performances.
Since joining the London club, Eriksen has registered a goal and an assist in 5 appearances for Thomas Frank’s side, and has also returned to the Denmark setup, scoring on his return to cap a fairytale recovery.

Now, as per The Northern Echo, the Magpies are the latest side to express an interest in the Dane, with the club now under new ownership and keen to splash the cash to move away from their seemingly seasonal relegation battles.
At 30 years old, Eriksen would add some much needed top quality experience to the Magpies side, and could work well as a foil for both the more defensively minded Bruno Guimaraes and also the athletic Joe Willock should they be deployed as a trio.

‘Newcastle United are hoping to prise Christian Eriksen from Brentford as one of their flagship pieces of summer transfer business’, claims the report.
However, they are not alone, with Tottenham also keen on a reunion with their former midfield star, which could prove a more attractive proposition to a man whose peak years are beginning to draw to a close, especially should the Lilywhites clinch Champions League qualification this season.
