Newcastle must seal Leandro Trossard move

Newcastle United have now entered their first summer transfer with their new owners.

The previous January window showed just how efficient they can be when it comes to bringing new players to the club.

This therefore would presumably fill a lot of Toon fans with hope and excitement that the same thing will happen again this time around.

One figure the Magpies have been linked with courtesy of Belgian outlet RTBF that could follow in the footsteps of the likes of Dan Burn and Matt Targett as players that made moves to St. James’ Park from other Premier League sides is Brighton star Leandro Trossard.

After beginning his career in Belgium, the 27-year-old joined the south coast club back in 2019 from Genk in a deal worth £15m.

Since then, the winger has scored 18 goals and delivered 11 assists in 103 appearances across all competitions.

The Belgian enjoyed his best campaign with the Seagulls last season in terms of his goal contributions, having found the net eight times and delivering three assists.

In fact, back in September, Trossard’s first goal of the season against Brentford was labelled as “magnificent” by Alan Shearer.

To further highlight his attacking talent, the winger racked up the joint-highest number of shot-creating actions (91) in Brighton’s squad as well as more dribbles (78) and shots at goal (72) than any of his teammates.

In terms of his overall performances, the player earned himself a season rating of 6.9/10 from WhoScored, making him the third-highest-rated outfield player in Graham Potter’s squad to start more than eight league games.

His recent form for club and country was also highlighted on Twitter by journalist Charlie Haffenden, who described the player as a “wizard.”

Would Trossard be a good signing for Newcastle?

This could then be why one player that is included on a list of similar players to the Belgian according to Football Transfers is Argentina star, Paulo Dybala.

Having scored 115 goals and delivered 48 assists in 293 appearances for Juventus across all competitions, having a player like him in the shape of Trossard could be a very exciting prospect for the Toon and Eddie Howe.

If Brighton were to be tempted to cash in on their attacking star, Newcastle and their new owners should be there to pounce on a potential deal.
