Newcastle in the running for Neymar

An update has emerged on Newcastle United and their interest in Neymar in the summer transfer window…

What’s the talk?

According to RMC Sport, the Magpies are one of the teams in the running to land him if Paris Saint-Germain decide to part ways with the Brazilian in the coming weeks.

The report claims that Premier League sides Manchester United and Chelsea are also possible destinations for him alongside St. James’ Park.

It is stated that Neymar is not against an exit from Paris but would not move to any club and will only green light a switch if the right transfer comes along.

Imagine him & Bruno Guimaraes

Whilst the chances of Neymar rocking up on Tyneside later this summer seem slim – given that he joined PSG for a fee of a world-record £200m in 2017 – just imagine the link-up he would have with Newcastle’s Brazilian star.

Guimaraes and Neymar linking up for goals and dazzling defenders with their skills would be a joy to watch in the top-flight next season.

The Toon midfielder joined the club in January and hit the ground running with five goals and one assist in 11 starts for Eddie Howe – completing 1.3 dribbles per match.

PSG’s mercurial winger, meanwhile, has proven himself throughout his career. David Beckham once dubbed him a “once-in-a-generation” player and former Premier League forward Diego Forlan previously lauded his talents, saying:

“Neymar is one of the best strikers in the world, playing in football’s best club team. He scores goals, he makes assists, he gets past players, he produces magic when he gets the ball. I could continue to compliment him because Neymar has lived up to the hype.

“Other Brazilians who’ve gone to Europe haven’t always settled so quickly. Neymar has. He’s going to get better and I suspect he’ll be the best in the world in a few years.”

He has the statistics to back up the praise as well. His 341 goals and assists in 330 matches for PSG and Barcelona combined, along with 74 strikes in 119 games for Brazil, mean that he has 415 goal contributions in Europe and at international level.

In Ligue 1 last season, Neymar scored 13 goals and provided six assists in 22 matches. He created a whopping 15 ‘big chances’ and provided 2.8 key passes per game as he showcased his immense ability in the final third, whilst also completing 2.6 dribbles per match.

Now, just for fun, imagine him and Bruno playing one-twos and devastating opposition defenders with their ability for Newcastle next season…
