According to Sport, via Sport Witness, the Magpies are set to battle it out with Spanish giants Barcelona to land the full-back’s services in 2023.
The report claims that AS Monaco value him in the region of €60m (£52m), which is the price they demanded from the La Liga side during the summer window.
It is stated that Newcastle have already started making moves to snap up the right-back, although it remains to be seen how much they are willing to pay for him.
Kieran Trippier’s heir
Eddie Howe could land the heir to Trippier’s throne at right-back by securing a deal to sign Vanderson, whether that is in January or next summer.
The former Atletico defender, who was previously dubbed “underrated” by England manager Gareth Southgate, has been a revelation since arriving at St. James’ Park in January.
Trippier has averaged 2.4 tackles and interceptions per game this season in the Premier League, after managing 4.5 per match last term, and also ranks second in the squad for his average SofaScore rating (7.49).
However, at the age of 32, Newcastle may now be looking to the future and what life may look like after the experienced full-back, which is why Vanderson could be an excellent piece of business.
The 21-year-old could come in as Trippier’s understudy at first before eventually taking over as the ex-Tottenham man’s career naturally winds down in the coming years.
Football talent scout Jacek Kulig previously claimed that the youngster is a “similar” player to former Inter Milan and Brazil full-back Maicon and described him as a “complete” player.
That comparison is a huge compliment to the Monaco man as Maicon enjoyed a terrific career in the game, earning 76 caps for Brazil and playing 249 matches for Italian giants Inter – winning the Champions League along the way.
Vanderson joined the Ligue 1 side in January and immediately showcased his defensive quality as he averaged 2.9 tackles and interceptions per game and created three ‘big chances’ in 17 appearances.
This season, he has played seven matches in the French top-flight and made a whopping 4.1 tackles and interceptions per outing, along with creating two ‘big chances’.
Therefore, the young gem could be Trippier’s heir at Newcastle as he has shown signs of his quality in France, at both ends of the pitch, and is a player with the potential to develop and hone his skills in the years to come.
He could learn from the Englishman whilst adapting to the Premier League before earning himself a place in the XI with his ability to win the ball back and create chances for his teammates from right-back.
