NEW BLACK STARS: Salisu, Tariq, Ambrosius line up as SIX PLAYERS commit to Ghana

Ghana Football Association President Kurt Okraku has confirmed the availability of six uncapped foreign-based players for upcoming assignments of the 2022 Fifa World Cup-bound Black Stars.

Brighton and Hove Albion defender Tariq Lamptey, Salisu Mohammed of Southampton and Athletic Bilbao’s Inaki Williams are notable names among the said players.

The country’s football governing body has, for months, been in talks with the foreign-based players over a nationality switch to the Black Stars.

Kurt Okraku revealed the new additions for the senior national team via Twitter.

Spanish-born Ghanaian Inaki Williams who had featured for La Roja, announced his decision to play for Ghana via Twitter, Tuesday evening.

Tariq Lamptey, a key member of the England U21 squad was at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium when the Black Stars played Madagascar in the 2023 Afcon qualifier.

German-based trio Stephan Ambrosius (centre-back, Hamburger SV), Patrick Pfeiffer (centre-back, SV Darmstadt 98) and Ransford-Yeboah Königsdörffer (forward, Hamburger SV) have committed to Ghana and are all available for selection, according to the GFA boss.

Also, Southampton centre-back Salisu Mohammed, who had earlier declined several call-ups to the team, is part of the new members of the team.

Head coach Otto Addo is preparing his team for the next Afcon qualifiers as well as the 2022 Fifa World Cup in Qatar where the Black Stars are housed in Group H alongside Portugal, South Korea and Uruguay.
