Mourinho’s faith gives Brahim Diaz fresh incentive in Real Madrid battle

Brahim Diaz has no intention of leaving Real Madrid after the arrival of Jose Mourinho, with the Portuguese manager viewing the Morocco international as a valuable part of his plans, according to Spanish newspaper AS.

The report describes Diaz’s repeated fight to establish himself at the club as a cycle he has experienced every summer.

“He arrives, accepts it, fights, and then rises again. That is how it is every summer. It is Brahim Diaz’s routine, season after season,” AS wrote. “That routine creates a situation in which the competition becomes increasingly intense. But this does not drain his energy; instead, it allows him to approach each new beginning calmly, one day at a time.”

Diaz is once again seeking to win or regain a role as a regular starter. His latest challenge began with his return to Valdebebas, 25 days after Morocco’s 2-0 defeat by France in the World Cup semi-final.

The day also marked Diaz’s 27th birthday. It was described by AS as a day that included Vinicius Junior, amid whispers of anticipation, Bernardo Silva’s first appearance and Diaz’s own return to training.

He began with a medical examination at Blua Sanitas, only minutes from Real Madrid’s training complex, before going out on to the pitch for what the newspaper portrayed as another familiar personal test.

Diaz joined training with confidence rather than arrogance, AS said, adding that his belief comes both from within and from the support of those around him.

That support includes Real Madrid, who reached an agreement with the player last season, at the beginning of Xabi Alonso’s tenure, to extend his contract until at least 2030. The deal has yet to be formally announced.

The report also said continued speculation over a possible move had not changed the situation. Juventus had been mentioned among the clubs interested in Diaz, along with other sides, but no deal progressed because neither the player nor Real Madrid wanted it to.

Mourinho’s arrival has not altered that outlook. According to AS, the manager considers Diaz an extremely valuable addition because his versatility and willingness to sacrifice fit closely with Mourinho’s footballing philosophy.

Competition for places remains fierce. Bernardo Silva is part of the equation and Diomande is expected to join soon, but Mourinho is counting on Diaz because he can contribute in a number of positions. He can operate in more central areas as a playmaker or play out wide.

Mourinho is said to compare Diaz with Bernardo Silva in terms of their positioning and their potential development within the team. Diaz can also play as a second striker, a role in which he enjoyed considerable success last season.

That success came under Alvaro Arbeloa, after Diaz had spent a period largely restricted to the substitutes’ bench. He responded by reclaiming a prominent role.

Diaz’s determination was particularly evident after he had started only four matches in 194 days. Despite that limited involvement, he started six consecutive games in a period of just 29 days between March and April.

During that spell, and even in the absence of Kylian Mbappe, Real Madrid produced their strongest run of the season before their campaign quickly changed direction.

AS presented that sequence as the latest example of Diaz’s relentless work and his habit of overcoming setbacks through competition. That resilience helped him convince Carlo Ancelotti and has now led to another challenge: new signings have arrived, but Diaz remains ready to fight for his place.
