Mikel Arteta assesses Xavi’s impact at Barcelona

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has been speaking about fellow countryman Xavi Hernandez and the job he has done at FC Barcelona.

Xavi took over Barcelona earlier in the season after Ronald Koeman’s lacklustre stint came to an end.

Since he has taken charge, Xavi has transformed Barca back into one of the most feared sides in La Liga.

La Blaugrana have won their last seven league games on the bounce and are undefeated in 15, last losing at the hands of Real Betis back in December.

And when Mikel Arteta was asked how big an impact Xavi has made at Barcelona since he has taken charge, the Spaniard replied: “Well, he’s someone that knows the club extremely well.

“He came in a really difficult moment and I think he’s bringing a lot of stability. He was given the right support in January to bring in some big players that were needed and so far, he’s doing a great job.”

Barcelona vs Cadiz

Of course, Xavi will no doubt be very disappointed that he was unable to guide Barca past the quarter-finals of this season’s Europa League, but the main goal in Catalonia is no doubt to secure Champions League football for 2022/23.

And, after going undefeated for 15 games, Xavi is on course to secure Barca a spot in Europe’s most coveted club competition next term.

Barcelona’s next outing will see them face off with Cadiz in La Liga on Monday evening.

As already mentioned, Barca head into the game in superb domestic form. Cadiz, meanwhile, are attempting to fight off relegation, currently sitting 18th and one point from safety.
