Both Memphis Depay and Martin Braithwaite have insisted that they do not want to leave Barcelona this summer.
Blaugrana boss Xavi is eyeing up at least one new forward this summer, with Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski at the top of his wish list. There could be further new faces as Luuk de Jong and Adama Traore’s loans have ended and Ousmane Dembele flirts with the exit door as he enters the final month of his contract.
With Xavi clearly looking for attacking reinforcements, both Depay and Braithwaite have gone public with their desires to stay at Camp Nou next year.
Firstly, Memphis told NOS: “I feel at home at Barcelona after just one season. I hope to be able to report there again next season.
“I want to continue at Barcelona next season.”
Listen now to 90min’s brand new podcast, Talking Transfers, with Scott Saunders, Graeme Bailey & Toby Cudworth. This week they discuss whether Sadio Mane will leave Liverpool for Bayern Munich, Manchester United’s pursuit of Benfica striker Darwin Nunez, Newcastle’s plans for Moussa Diaby and Sven Botman & Jorginho’s future at Chelsea.
As for Braithwaite, who made just four La Liga appearances all year – including just ten minutes under Xavi – he told Bold that he doesn’t want to go anywhere either.
“I’m having a great time at Barcelona,” he said. “I haven’t played that much, but we have a good coach and I know I’ll probably get the chance if I’m there and I work hard.
“I’m satisfied with Xavi’s way of working, although we haven’t spoken that much. When I came back from injury, there were a lot of players and they were doing well. I understand it as a player. It’s like that sometimes.
“I’ve been in a situation like this before, where I haven’t played and people said I wasn’t going to play. I always had it against me. What’s going to happen this summer is not something that worries me.”
