Medeama SC closed the first round of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League on a high, sitting top of the table after a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Hearts of Oak at the TnA Stadium in Tarkwa.
Salim Adams was the hero on the day, striking in the 74th minute against his former club after a blistering run and pinpoint cut-back from Richard Appiah on the right flank.
Medeama controlled possession and dictated the tempo for long periods, forcing Hearts goalkeeper Solomon Agbasi into a string of saves before finally breaking the deadlock.
The win hands the Mauve and Yellow a two-point cushion at the summit and firmly stamps their title credentials. Hearts end the first round in fifth place on 28 points.
In Swedru, All Blacks produced one of the shocks of the weekend, stunning Asante Kotoko 2–1 at the Swedru Sports Stadium.
Roland Leveh opened the scoring before Morifing Donzo briefly restored parity for Kotoko.
But Rudolf Mensah’s superb strike deep into first-half stoppage time proved decisive, earning All Blacks a morale-boosting win that eases pressure on their technical team. Kotoko slip to third, now four points adrift of the leaders.
Aduana FC’s title push suffered a major dent at the Nana Agyemang Badu I Park, where Vision FC claimed a shock 1–0 away victory.
Meschack Adjetey’s 34th-minute strike stunned the home fans, condemning Aduana to a fourth defeat of the campaign and leaving them five points off the pace.
The result lifts Vision FC to 11th and reignites belief after a difficult spell.
Bibiani Gold Stars were involved in a five-goal thriller, coming from behind to beat Eleven Wonders 3–2 at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.
Eden Kofi Asamoah gave the hosts an early lead, but Bright Boakye and Samuel Atta Kumi turned the game around for Gold Stars.
Eleven Wonders hit back through William Danquah to level at 2–2 before the break, but Emmanuel Agyei’s 59th-minute strike sealed a crucial away win.
The result sends Gold Stars into second place, just two points behind Medeama, while Eleven Wonders’ relegation worries deepen.
Bechem United also picked up a vital result, edging Berekum Chelsea 1–0 at the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park.
Emmanuel Abban’s 62nd-minute goal capped a spirited response following Bechem’s heavy loss to Kotoko and lifted them out of the drop zone. Chelsea’s woes continued as they slipped into the bottom three.
At the Tuba Astro Turf, Dreams FC bounced back in style with a comfortable 2–0 win over Basake Holy Stars.
Second-half goals from Seidu Suraj and Kelvin Ahaible secured a third straight home victory, moving Dreams clear of relegation trouble, while Holy Stars dropped to 14th.
The first round wrapped up at the Dr Kwame Kyei Sports Complex, where Nations FC were held to a goalless draw by a resilient Karela United.
Nations had a golden chance to snatch all three points, but Emmanuel Annor’s second-half penalty was brilliantly saved by Ganiu Mohammed, earning Karela a valuable away draw.
With the first round complete, Medeama lead the way but the title race is finely poised as the league heads into the business end of the season.
