Medeama SC have ended their attempt to sign free-agent goalkeeper Solomon Agbasi after failing to reach an agreement over his financial demands, club president Moses Armah Parker has confirmed.
The Tarkwa-based club held discussions with Agbasi’s representatives about a possible move, but decided not to proceed when the goalkeeper’s asking price was judged to be beyond their budget.
Agbasi became available after leaving Hearts of Oak and has since emerged as one of the most sought-after goalkeepers on the local transfer market. His availability had encouraged interest from Medeama SC, who considered bringing him into their squad as they prepare for the next stage of their domestic and continental commitments.
However, the club’s talks with the player’s camp did not lead to a deal. Speaking in an interview with Medeama FM, Armah said the financial terms required for the transfer were not acceptable to the Ghana Premier League champions.
“We contacted Solomon Agbasi’s camp regarding a possible move from Hearts of Oak to Medeama Sporting Club, but his asking price was above our budget,” Armah said.
The decision means Medeama will not add Agbasi to their squad despite the goalkeeper’s strong reputation and recent performances. He has continued to attract attention since his departure from Hearts of Oak, with his form also earning recognition at international level.
Agbasi was named as a standby goalkeeper for Ghana’s squad at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. That recognition has further raised his profile and contributed to his status as a prominent option for clubs seeking to strengthen the position.
Medeama remain active in the transfer market despite missing out on Agbasi. The club are continuing their recruitment work as they prepare to defend their Ghana Premier League title and return to the CAF Champions League.
The failed move therefore represents a decision based on budget rather than a lack of interest in the goalkeeper. Medeama explored the possibility of signing Agbasi, but the gap between the player’s financial expectations and the club’s available resources prevented negotiations from progressing.
For Agbasi, his status as a free agent leaves him among the leading goalkeeping options currently available on the local market. His performances in recent seasons and his inclusion as a standby member of Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup squad have ensured continued interest following his exit from Hearts of Oak.
Medeama, meanwhile, must continue looking elsewhere as they build a squad capable of competing on two fronts. Their immediate priorities remain the defence of their Ghana Premier League crown and their return to the CAF Champions League, while the club’s transfer activity continues.
