Ghana Premier League champions Medeama SC have arrived in Abidjan to begin a three-week residential pre-season training camp as they step up preparations for the 2026/27 campaign.
The Tarkwa-based club reached the Ivorian capital on Wednesday morning after travelling from Ghana, with the camp expected to form an important part of their work before the start of the new season.
Medeama will face significant demands in the campaign ahead. Alongside attempting to retain their Ghana Premier League title, the Mauve and Yellow will also represent Ghana in the CAF Champions League.
The club have again selected Cote d’Ivoire as their base for pre-season, having followed a similar programme there last year before the previous campaign. Medeama will now spend three weeks in Abidjan working on the physical and tactical aspects of their preparations.
Head coach Ibrahim Tanko is expected to use the camp to refine the team’s tactical approach, raise the players’ fitness levels and assess the squad before competitive football begins.
The programme will combine intensive training sessions with friendly matches. Those fixtures will give Tanko the opportunity to examine the team’s readiness and make further adjustments as Medeama prepare for the demands of domestic and continental football.
The club’s return to Cote d’Ivoire underlines the importance of their preparations after a successful previous season. Medeama enter the new campaign as Ghana’s champions, but must also balance the challenge of defending their domestic crown with the opportunity to compete on the African stage.
For the squad, the residential camp provides a focused setting in which to build towards the season. The training schedule is intended to improve fitness, develop tactical understanding and help the coaching staff evaluate the players available to them.
Medeama’s three-week stay in Abidjan will therefore be centred on creating the platform required for another demanding season. With the Ghana Premier League title to defend and the CAF Champions League campaign ahead, the club are aiming to establish a strong foundation before returning to competitive action.
The Mauve and Yellow have made Cote d’Ivoire a familiar part of their pre-season planning, and the latest camp represents the next stage in their preparations for a campaign carrying both domestic responsibility and continental ambition.
