Matthias Jaissle’s proposed move to Newcastle United remains unresolved because of outstanding administrative procedures involving Al-Ahli Saudi FC, although the deal is still expected to be completed.
The German coach is understood to be close to taking charge of the English club ahead of the new season, following his resignation from Al-Ahli in recent days. His departure brought an end to his time with the Saudi Arabian side, during which he guided the club to a number of trophies.
Jaissle has since held advanced discussions with Newcastle United over succeeding Englishman Eddie Howe as head coach. However, the formal announcement of his appointment has yet to be made, prompting continued uncertainty over the German’s immediate future.
British journalist Lee Ryder, who is close to Newcastle United, said the delay was linked to paperwork connected with Al-Ahli Saudi FC. He added that the negotiations were progressing normally and that the agreement was expected to be finalised.
Ryder also reported that Jaissle is currently in La Manga, Spain, while the remaining administrative and legal procedures surrounding his departure and proposed appointment are completed. The coach is waiting for those matters to be concluded before Newcastle United officially confirms his arrival.
The expectation is that Newcastle United will settle the issue within the next few days. If the move goes through, Jaissle will begin his first coaching position in the Premier League, taking charge of the club as preparations continue for the new campaign.
For Al-Ahli, Jaissle’s resignation means the club must now identify a new head coach before the start of the season. The Saudi side have begun looking for a replacement while the German waits for the final steps of his potential move to England.
Jaissle’s possible appointment would mark a new stage in his managerial career after his spell with Al-Ahli, where he left following a period that included several trophies. Newcastle United, meanwhile, are working to complete the process before making the change in the dugout official.
