Manchester United sealed the future of Cristiano Ronaldo on Tuesday. The Portuguese striker will no longer wear the jersey of the Mancunian club, a decision which will not be without consequences for the Red Devils.
“Cristiano Ronaldo is leaving Manchester United by mutual agreement and with immediate effect. The club thanks him for his immense contribution during two spells at Old Trafford.” It is with this laconic press release that Manchester United ended its relationship with Cristiano Ronaldo, with whom the break had become inevitable following the multiple declarations of the Portuguese striker, in particular very critical of his coach Erik ten Hag and the evolution negative from the English club. This departure of the 37-year-old star, who returned to Old Trafford in August 2021 for a transfer of 17 million euros, will not be without consequences for the Red Devils.
A nice cash flow
From a financial point of view, this divorce from the native of Funchal – only 5 goals in 21 games in all competitions in 2022-2023 – will save Manchester United a nice sum of money. As reported by journalist Fabrizio Romano, the Mancunian leaders will recover for the coffers 17 million pounds, or nearly 20 million euros, since it should be remembered that the contract of the former resident of Real Madrid ran until June 2023 (+ an optional additional year). Behind the scenes also, MU intends to react in the coming weeks on the transfer market.

Until then ready to wait until next summer to take action, the staff of Manchester United seems ready to recruit from January 2023 a new striker brought to compensate numerically for the departure of the Portuguese international, who is about to play the 2022 World Cup with his selection. With that in mind, PSV Eindhoven and Netherlands striker Cody Gakpo would be on the shelf. To be continued… Last Monday, the 23-year-old striker scored the Oranje’s first goal against Senegal (2-0), during the World Cup in Qatar.
