Fabrizio Romano has dropped an update on the future of Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo.
What’s the latest?
In a recent video posted on his YouTube channel, the Italian journalist revealed that, following weeks of reports linking the 37-year-old with a move away from Old Trafford this summer, he is now set for to begin talks with both Erik ten Hag and the United hierarchy to determine whether or not he will remain in Manchester ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.
Regarding the current situation surrounding the Portuguese veteran, Romano said: “Cristiano Ronaldo is now back in Manchester. He’s back to decide on his future together with Manchester United after spending one month away from the team because of personal reasons. But now, Cristiano is ready to have discussions with Manchester United about his future.
“Let me mention one thing: Erik ten Hag, the Manchester United manager. In all the interviews he had in the last few weeks, he always said: ‘I want to discuss with Cristiano. I consider Cristiano not for sale. Cristiano is perfect for Manchester United. I want Cristiano to be part of the team.’
“So the message was really clear, and now for Erik ten Hag, it’s time to have a new conversation with Cristiano. At the same time, the agent of Cristiano Ronaldo, Jorge Mendes, this week is still trying to find solutions.
“Manchester United insist, with their sources internally and in public, that Cristiano is not for sale, they want to keep Cristiano, they consider him a key player for the new season. And so, Man United are now set to have talks with Cristiano Ronaldo to decide the future.”
Supporters will love Romano’s update
Considering just how important a part of Manchester United’s team Ronaldo proved himself to be last season, Romano’s update suggesting that the 37-year-old is now willing to enter into discussions with the club in order to determine his future is sure to be news that the Old Trafford faithful will love.
Do you think Ronaldo will leave United this summer?
Indeed, despite the Red Devils’ continued struggles in 2021/22, the £27m-rated forward nevertheless managed to stand out over his 30 Premier League appearances. He scored 18 goals, registered three assists and created seven big chances for his team-mates, along with taking 3.7 shots (1.4 of which hit the target), making 0.9 key passes and completing 0.7 dribbles per game.
These returns saw the £515k-per-week striker average an extraordinary SofaScore match rating of 7.26, ranking him as United’s joint-best performer in the league and the joint 20th-best player in the English top flight as a whole.
As such, it is clear to see just how difficult it would be for Ten Hag to replace Ronaldo were the 37-year-old to move onto pastures new ahead of the upcoming Premier League campaign, while the loss of the fan favourite would also undoubtedly come as a gutting blow to United supporters.
That leads us to believe that Romano’s latest update is sure to be received with delight by everyone involved with the club.
