Man United ready to hold new contract talks with De Gea

Manchester United are open to giving goalkeeper David de Gea a new deal in the coming weeks.

The Spaniard has been one of the consistent players for United in their turmoil season and 90mins reports that the club wants to tie him to another deal as they consider him a senior player who will be helpful to new manager Erik ten Hag.

Others however are against such a move as De Gea has since lost his national team place, and there was a point where his position at United number one was under threat from England international Dean Henderson, the 31-year-old has battled hard to recapture his form and position in the United goal.

90min revealed in February that De Gea and United were set for talks about his future, and it’s now understood that the club has decided they want to hand him fresh terms with his current deal ending in 2023.

United also possess an option to extend the deal by a year they are looking to tie him down for longer – with his peak years as a goalkeeper likely still ahead of him.

With six players out of contract at the end of June and a number of in-contract players up for sale, United doesn’t want to lose the core of the team and feels De Gea can play a huge role in their revamp.
